Secularism the Path to Ultimate Evil

Secularism the Path to Ultimate Evil

Secularism as depicted by ‘The National Secular Society’ maintains the following main points:-

1 ’This life is the only one of which we have any knowledge’
2 ‘Supernaturalism is based upon ignorance and is the historic enemy of progress’
3 ‘Progress is the basis of equal freedom of speech and publication’ and ‘insists that
free criticism of institutions and ideas is essential to a civilised state’
4 ‘Morality is social in origin and application’
5 ‘Demands complete separation of state and church’

Of course Secularism, in the broader sense of the word, has been very active within the church; here with the aid of modernism and liberalism it has sought to secularise the Word of God and to corrupt Christian doctrine; then aided by freedom of expression, human rights and equality legislation, it has made a mockery and a misery of the lives of the church going public. As an evangelical Protestant I want to plot the path that Secularism is spreading before society today.

1 Secularism denies the existence and destiny of the human soul; this removes human responsibility towards Almighty God, and the reality of heaven and hell, with one foul stroke. Such a retrograde step reduces man to the animal kingdom and brings him onto a certain collision course with God. This sort of path brings society to a beastly level of self worth.
2 For Secularism to ridicule supernaturalism thus, is to deny the reality of divine intervention; this reckless and unnecessary derisory comment serves only to destroy any possibility of hope for society in time of dire crisis. It strikes at the heart of Biblical truth and teaching; it attempts to destroy the person and work of Christ.
3 While there is nothing wrong with unbiased free speech; but when it comes to a Secularist interpretation of freedom of speech, then that is out of order. Bible believing Christians must have the right and freedom for the public expression of their faith; when freedom of speech legislation impinges on a Christians civil and religious liberty then that is entirely wrong. Such bias and prejudice against Christian expression leads society into bondage.
4 In a Christian country, the moral law is summarily comprehended in the Ten Commandments; this will not do for Secularism of course. Secularism does not want to hear the word SIN!; to secularist minds it is offensive and out dated; so Secularism has decided to take man’s sin and rebellion against God and hide it in society. Society needs a moral code based upon a steady and sure foundation; only God can set a reasonable standard for man the creature. To say that morality has it’s origin and application in society is to deny the existence of SIN. By way of definition, ‘sin is any want of conformity unto or transgression of the law of God’
5 Secularism wants to take the Word of God out of the state; such a step will lead a once Christian country into ultimate evil. It is the Word of God and the lives of God’s redeemed people that act as a barrier against evil and the forces of darkness; remove this and the nation will plunge into the abyss of Satanism.

In conclusion, I believe that Secularism is the greatest enemy that the Reformed Faith has ever encountered; it will ultimately destroy our nation and people. The path that Secularism presents, must be resisted and exposed for what it really is, a path to perdition.

  1. Rev. Cotton . . .

For those who have “ears to hear” . . you have once again spoken a “word in season”!
Thank you for this most solemn expose of the evil nature of secularism and the warning you give to the Lord's people of the threat it represents to those who are of the Reformed faith.

Is this not the very spirit of secularism spoken of in the 2nd Psalm; verses 1-3:

“Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying,
Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.”

Does not the Christ-rejecting world declare with one voice: “We have no king but Caesar.” (Jo. 19:15)

Sadly this same spirit has subtly crept into the professing church of Jesus Christ, and along with it the leaven of politics . . “political correctness” . . a worldly spirit . . even as God's Word warned us it would. (Jude 4) Many false teachers and prophets occupy the pulpit today and have so wrested the Scriptures that the preaching set forth there is not the glorious Gospel of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ of free & sovereign grace, but in truth, “another gospel” Sadly those that sit under these ministries are not “learning Christ”, through the “foolishness of preaching”, nor being made disciples of Christ, nor shown the way of holiness, that they might serve God in sincerity and in truth, but are being taught the vain philosophies of men after the rudiments of the world, being conformed to the ways of the world, serving the "god of this world", and blindly following after their blind leaders who lead them astray.
Those that follow them have no taste for the TRUTH, but say in their heart . . “Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.” (Is. 30:10-11)

They have in effect declared with the world . . we will not have this man . . Christ Jesus to rule over us! (Col. 2:8; Matt. 15:14)

    John 8:47a
“He that is of God heareth God's words:”
    John 8:47b
“ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”

    Rev. Cotton . .

Thanks be to God for the sound doctrine and wholesome words of your ministry.
“But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.” (Micah 3:8)

May the wise counsel you have sought to impart here be taken to heart by the “little flock of God” . . . for the days are evil.

    In Christian solidarity,
